Il Misterioso Viaggio di Federico Fellini

“The most famous unmade film in the history of cinema.”

This documentary follows the traces of Fellini’s never-completed project, Il viaggio di G. Mastorna, to reconstruct the artistic journey behind a film shrouded in mystery and forgotten reels. The emblematic figure of G. Mastorna—whom Fellini envisioned for Marcello Mastroianni—crashes in a plane accident and finds himself in a Northern Gothic city, suspended between dream and nightmare. The un-film remains one of the greatest enigmas of Italian cinema.
The project even ended up in court: after only a year of preparation, Fellini abandoned it, prompting De Laurentiis—who had invested over one billion lire—to sue him.
