King Herod is a historical docudrama produced through a collaboration between Australia, Germany, France, and Italy. A two-part series, it reconstructs roughly 200 years of history centered on the figure of King Herod: from the years of his tumultuous reign to the rise of Roman rule in Judea. An epic-flavored story, narrated in the first person through the words of the controversial historian Flavius Josephus, blending expert interviews, dramatic reenactments, and evocative computer-generated reconstructions.

A journey into history that, through an exploration of Herod’s reign, marked by extraordinary cultural and architectural development yet also drenched in blood, seeks to shed light on his controversial descent into madness, as well as on the inexorable fall of his kingdom and the destruction of the Jewish nation.
